2019 New Year’s Address - from Dean Chen Wenxia
Dear faculty and staff members, students, alumni and friends,
At a time when we turn the page on one year and look ahead to the future, on behalf of Guangxi Medical University College of Stomatology (GXMUCS), I would like to extend New Year greetings to all of you.
The New Year is a time to reflect on what has passed and look ahead to the opportunities to come. In retrospection, GXMUCS has observed a year of reform marked by remarkable achievements.
Excellent Dental Education We are entitled as National Specialist Training Base for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and approved as the First-Class Discipline in Guangxi. The past year has witnessed our undergraduate students winning awards in national and regional dental competitions. Our international graduate student has won the second prize in the 1st Dental Graduate Student Forum of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Grand Bay Area. Besides, our faculty takes the position as vice chairman of Dental Education Steering Committee of Ministry of Education this year.
Pursuing Academic Excellence The College becomes member of National Clinical Research Center for Oral Disease. We have undertaken 25 scientific research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation and Guangxi government, won 8 national patents and published 85 papers.
Enhancing Exchange and Cooperation We have successfully held the 6th China-ASEAN Forum on Dentistry. During the forum, we have established partnership with 4 dental schools from Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Our faculty have offered lectures, training and voluntary dental service in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Improving Dental Care Service We are constantly improving the quality of medical service to meet the growing need for dental health of the public. We offer guidance, training and technical supervision for dental professionals from over 120 hospitals and clinics in over 40 counties in Guangxi to participate in oral public health service. The office of Guangxi Stomatological Quality Control Center locates in the College, and the College was nominated as the China’s Top Stomatological Hospitals for five consecutive years with over 300,000 outpatients and 2,500 inpatients yearly.
Advancing Construction of the New Campus Five main buildings of the new campus have been completed, laying a solid foundation for realizing our goal of becoming a world-class dental school with regional advantages.
In prospect, I foresee opportunities and challenges that GXMUCS is to embrace. The year 2019 is a year for us to make additional progress on top of our past achievements. We shall continue to make more efforts to promote dental education, pursue academic excellence, and push forward reform and innovation.
